Carlos Aceves, born in 1954, has a Bachelors of Arts in journalism and a Master of Education in educational psychology. He is a bilingual teacher at Canutillo Elementary School in Texas and coordinates the Xinachtli Project for the indigenous Cultures Institute, teaching young children using Mesoamerican pedagogy. Carlos has presented at national conferences and various universities across the country. He formally began learning indigenous spirituality in 1980 from maestro Jesus Ventura and maestro Paola Juarez. Later he traveled to Mexico, studying with several maestros of the Nahuatl and Mayan traditions. He has published in educational journals, chapters in texts for teacher education, and is author of novel Diadema, published by Floricanto Press. His Nahuatl name is Yolohuitzcalotl, which means “Crow with a hummingbird for a heart.”

It is a re-creation of a Pre-Conquest Aztec Codex.
